EVERYONE HAS A VITAL ROLE TO PLAY
Make your expectations known to leaders.
A major problem in Black America is our inability to distinguish leaders who
are acting in our interest from leaders who are using African
Americans to forward their personal mission of wealth-building. Most of us
do not know what constitutes a good leader: Is it someone who holds marches,
someone who delivers impassioned speeches or someone who is covered on
nightly news whenever a black issue arises? African Americans should expect
their leaders to consistently act in their interest. If a
leader fails to consistently do right by African Americans, cease to let him
or her lead. Do not show up at rallies, marches or forums─even
if you agree with the cause. African Americans must begin evidencing their
own unique version of chutzpa (Jewish moxy). We must turn our backs on (ostracize) Black leaders who fail to
consistently represent African-American interests.

Take responsibility for your future.
While the African-American past is characterized by slavery, discrimination
and unfair treatment, empowered African Americans accept complete
responsibility for their future. That means understanding that every African
American has a
role to play in bringing about change. Financially support this cause when
asked. Take part in community meetings, non-violent protests
and other actions designed to bring about change.
